Programs
Our building was designed and built to be a childcare centre. You will see as you tour our centre that we designed the rooms with children in mind. Our washrooms are child sized to ensure a safe environment as well as to provide the children with the opportunity to develop confidence as they complete the toileting routine on their own. Children do not have to be toilet trained to enter our toddler program.
We have two programs at Learning Grove Childcare centre. We have a toddler program for children 18 months to 3 years. This program is less structured than our preschool program across the hall for our children that are 3 to 5 years old. Learning Grove runs a child directed program which allows for children to have a lot of choice while following a daily routine. We have implemented elements of the High Scope Key curriculum.
Learning Grove operates a school age unit in the Digby Elementary School. We provide an after school program for children ages 5 to 12 years. The unit is licensed for 22 children.
We provide early childhood programs for children who are typically developing or have special needs.
Children are provided with a variety of experiences that support all aspects of development (social, emotional, physical, intellectual, perceptual and language). Developmental needs of the children are the primary consideration when planning the daily schedule and environment. Children need the opportunity to choose and direct their own play. Therefore, children are provided with blocks of time to pursue self selected activity without too much interference by the adult. Adult planned and directed activities are also important and beneficial particularly when they are based on observation of children’s behaviors, needs and interests.
Children in all programs have a progress report completed twice per year.
